Eligibility

Applicants must:

  • Applicants MUST be full-time employees in a program providing MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES in contract with the New York City Department of Mental Hygiene’s Bureau of Mental Health or Bureau of Children, Youth and Families.
  • Applicants who have direct client facing contact or a caseload must apply to the clinical method at Silberman. Those applying for the OML method MUST have administrative/supervisory responsibilities within a social service setting. Those applying for the Community Organizing method MUST have demonstrate that they have commuinty organizing responsibilities related to mental health within a social service setting. 
  • Obtain permission from their agency to apply to the MHSP. Acceptance into the scholarship program is contingent on agencies committing to providing an educationally sound field placement during a scholar’s field year, a certified field instructor and time off during work hours for the scholar to attend classes during their field year. Applicants must engage their agency leadership in a discussion of their intent to apply prior to submitting a letter of intent.
  • Agree to remain in their agency/program for a total of 4 – 4 ½ years. This includes the 2 to 2 ½ years in school and for two years post MSW graduation.
  • Be a legal resident of New York State.
