Welcome to the DOHMH-MHSP at the Silberman School of Social Work

The New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene’s Mental Health Scholarship Program (MHSP) has been housed at the Silberman School of Social Work for over thirty years, and has graduated some of New York City’s leaders in mental health service provision. Since taking over as the Director of the MHSP in January 2022, I have had the honor of continuing in the legacy of previous Directors, Dr. Ana Paulino and Dr. Roberta Graziano. My goals are to continue the excellent work of those who built this successful program, to develop a robust network of MHSP alumni, and to increase access to professional development and networking opportunities that connect current scholars with alum. Please use the alum sign up on this site to reconnect with us and stay informed.

The MHSP accepts twenty students, who are referred to as scholars, each Fall and supports them in the successful completion of their master’s in social work degree. This is a very competitive scholarship with fewer than 20% of applicants accepted each admissions cycle. The scholarship covers full tuition and fees for the two years required for degree completion. Scholars also receive intensive academic advisement and mentoring, participate in professional development seminars, and have opportunities to connect and interact with our alumni network. Each scholar is supported by their Professional Development Counselor, field instructors, the larger Silberman team, and DOHMH liaison staff. If you are passionate about the work you do, and are interested in pursuing an advanced degree in social work practice, whether that is in clinical practice, organizational management and leadership, or in community organizing, this site contains important information about the scholarship and how to apply.

Sincerely,

Dr. Tricia Stephens
